Hey Guys,
I live in eastern Sydney and have been busily repotting my deciduous and conifer bonsai (pre-bonsai really) in the last few weeks. I have one Acer palmatum that has started to push its new season of growth. In about a week the tree will be covered in leaves. we have had a reasonably warm winter here in Sydney but all my other deciduous trees are still asleep.
recent history of the tree: repotted about 9 months ago into a sharp, free draining mix to increase poor root health.
sometime early this month root pruned (good root recovery evident) and major branch selection and placed in bonsai soil and pot.
this week... buds shooting.
should I be worried? I dont know what to expect as this is my first serious season getting my trees trees into bonsai pots.
appreciate any help guys.
Cheers,
Ces.

Hi Ces , mate my grow bed of Palmatums are still in Autumn tones , and like kc i have Tridents bursting into life along with Elms , Crab Apples and a few others . We did have a warm 20 degree spell a week or so ago and that was the green light for bud burst .

Yes.
Strange year.
I did note that a heap of the chinese elms at the BNW show on the weekend were breaking out in spring growth too......
I checked all mine (CE's) last night and no sign of movement at my house!
In fact no sign of bud movement on ANY of my tree's as yet.
Weird.

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Here in the West where I live, I have Elms that have lost their leaves, some still have theirs and I have some that have new buds and some almost fully leafed out
.
So at this stage just keeping an eye on the weather to start re potting them. We have had no frost yet but the temps have been down to 1. So I will wait till august.
Cheers Pup
