Growth on tree

Post by Ivor »

Hello.

I have a small collected Acacia that has had a growth appear about 6 months ago, and from the growth new branches have emerged. You can see this in the photos below.

I was wondering if I have an options to remove it, and the recommended way to do so.

Thank you!

It looks like the tree has been damaged by a wood burrowing insect and then started to heal itself around the damaged area.

You could cut it off but it would leave a scar. The off cut could go into a tray of wet sand with some rooting hormone on it to see if it puts out roots.

I would be inclined to cut it off just to check that thing causing the damage isn't there anymore.
Patience is often a surprise.

Looks to me like meristematic growth. Cut it off, You can not use it... Your branches look very tender with long internodes. Is your acacia getting enough sun?
I ask lots of questions that sound like suggestions. Please remember I am a inquisitive newbie trying to figure out why You made a particular decision, in order to learn.
