Re: Callitris glaucophylla
I love these callitris peter it's a good drive out there for a bonsaier. This year I'm going to to be taking a ton of cuttings all different methods ,mediums and timing and record my findings as their is very limited info out there for this
Species especially in the way of propagation other than seed i think they are a very under utilized bonsai resource for bonsai in Australia

Jadecuphey87,
Good luck with the research. I have a couple in pots but they have a problem with -ve taper. Haven't done much with because of this. Like many other native they are under utilized. This is one I have worked on over the years. Obliviously needs more work.
Regards,
Peter

Re: Callitris glaucophylla
Hi Peter, nice pics and I really like your tree.
I only have a couple that I bought as tube stock 1yr ago so they are very young...2yr olds.
On you travels have you ever seen them as twin trunks in nature?
And can you please elaborate on the taper issue..."-ve taper"...was that a typo and you are just generally refering to taper, or does the "ve" stand for something else?
Cheers, Dario.

Hi Dario,
-ve is an electrical symbol meaning negative. I should have said reverse taper. Yes I have seen them as twin trunk but not as common.

Peter

Re: Callitris glaucophylla
That is a aussie hero tree peter. shame about the taper hope you resolve this issue soon because this little fella has a lot of potential and charisma, true representation of a callitris in nature gnarled curled weathered branches when i think of callitris bonsai this is what imagine it would be great job. Hi dario i have seen quite a few with twin trunks. Although a lot of the time one tends to dominate the other causing the weaker of the two to die off and in most cases break at some point. The ones that i have seen out in the mallee have really riveting curly deadwood from the punishing rolling winds out here they are amazing specimen. I'm getting pics next time I'm out there just to post here...

Re: Callitris glaucophylla
Thanks for the explanation Peter, makes perfect sense now. I have just read Grants thread again (been a while) and I saw a triple trunk pic in it too I hope to see these trees in nature one day. Look forward to seeing your tree in the future Peter.PeterH wrote:Hi Dario,

Re: Callitris glaucophylla
HI Peter H , love the look of your Callitris .I have collected several myself but they all suffer from reverse taper at the base of the trunk. As mentioned in another post I have attempted a ground layer .Regards John.

Re: Callitris glaucophylla
Very interesting tree Peter. I just wonder whether this branch is preventing something special from being seen? Though it's hard to tell from here..

I think you may have misunderstood?PeterH wrote:Hi Mike,
The piece of dead wood does hide the branch movement a bit.I have thought about reducing it.

Re: Callitris glaucophylla
Hi Mike,
Reluctant to remove that branch at this stage as it fills that area. Maybe something to consider in the future and turn it into dead wood.

Peter
