Re: English Elm Raft

Thanks for sharing Ian, Ive got a few tree's in mind that could use this treatment. How long till the wire starts biting the leader though, I'd imagine the new set of roots would fatten it up fairly quickly?

Re: English Elm Raft
Hi Andrew F , Mate it all about sharing , the wire can stay on for a couple of seasons as i want to produce a knarly trunk, it could be removed in a single season . There is plenty of buds along the vacant trunk so they too shall sprout and i will selectively rub off the unwanted shoots .
The pot is a bit short at 400mm hence the diagonal set trunk just fitted in . A tray would ave been better or even in the ground but the arched trunk will remain somewhat arched .
Hi Oc , mate can't take the credit here , i was sent a pic and set about knocking one up as a show and tell . Took all of 40 minutes from go the whoe .
Cheers Guys . Alpine

Re: English Elm Raft
Hi Oc , mate there is always more than 1 tree in a plant , spin them around , turn them upside down . I still look at pics and that does the job to give it a lash , i rarely just cut something down . They say find the smallest tree within in , I disagree with this statement , I find the largest tree within .Olivecrazy wrote:Its the williness to give it ago alpineart i search the net daily looking at all types of trees its where most my ideas come from most of the time, ive learnt a lot in the last 16mths ive been back into bonsai just takes time to get the results.
