Hi,

For me it is a hard tree to work on, but it is interesting though.

I like the design you came up with. Obviously you have thought about it.
If it were mine, I would go with that as well.

I hope you do not get upset, but it is only a week, how can we be so sure that
it will survive?

Best regards.

Thats an awesome Hawthorn ant,

I hope that it makes it through...I'm sure it will.

What width is the specimin across the base?

I definately want a Hawthorn as part of my collection for sentimental reasons.

I will try and find one out there somewhere but haven't seen any in the nurseries yet. Have to go wild I think like you.

:D
Whilst walking through the forest of Bonsai Myths, I found a single small tree.
From it I learned all I needed to know.

definately go wild, tech. thanks for the encouragement. the main trunk on the left, if turned anti clockwise 20 deg is 100mm across the base. as you see it 85mm. i hope to see it flower one day and bear fruit. oops getting ahead of myself again.  :D

You have done a good job getting rid of the unnecessary branches and getting back to the basic form. The root spread looks good and I can see this developing into a nice tree. Weeds they may be but Hawthorn surely makes nice bonsai. I love the shape of the leaf...

Gday Antonio!

Nice find! I don't think I have access to any Hawthorns as twisty as that...

Now, it's difficult to be certain, but I think you might be showing us the back of the group: it looks to me as though the smallest trunk is at the front of the planting. It also appears as though the main trunk comes toward the viewer. If you were to reverse the viewing angle, the small trunk at the back would help lend a sense of depth, as would the main trunk moving away from the viewer initially. Can we please see it from the other side?

As for styling of new growth, I'd be mindful of styling it like a deciduous tree: your Virts present nicely, but they have a definite conifer feel to them. I might consider allowing the thing to grow a bit more wild, perhaps allowing the 3 canopies to become one (if I get time, I'll try a nasty Virt for you).

I really look forward to seeing this group with some growth on it!

Thanks for sharing.

Fly.

fly thanks for the well thought review; these virts were more an exercise for the trunk lines. the branches come out at 45's b4 they take a dip, so for me this represents decidiuous styling, but i can see how my over all image looks coniferish. i do agree the canopy will need to be fuller and that will over come the conifer look. this is the only front that works for me. looking from the back gives the main trunk a pidgeon breast and less movement. yes depth is an issue and i will have to figure that out.( i do have an idea have to wait and see). the smaller tree at the front will create perspective. i would love to see ya virt. thanks :D

Gday Antonio!

It's not so much a Virt as a crappy sketch, but you get the idea. I've taken the 3rd of the 'back' photos, tilted a bit to the left and grown some branches. It would be better if it was rotated anti-clockwise a bit, so that the smaller trunk is closer to the LH trunk.
