Re: A plums story
THIS THING SWINGS!!!
I love the movement in it, but for me the trunk suddenly disappears at the Big Chop - I know it delays everything, but would you consider a few years in a grow-bed or grow-box, to get the trunk tapering a bit more even? It might end up a taller tree, but it would be better balanced. Just my opinion.
I hope your health treats you well - I remember your husky-racing photos, and hope that you're back to it soon.
Best of luck,
Gavin

Sorry to trouble you as I thought you had one of this view amongst all the other pics.
Cheers, Dario.![]()
PS are they screws or branch stubs that the wire is attached to in two separate places on the back?...it gets a little too blury to tell when I zoom in on the pic.
They are screws, there is a screw at the base of every branch to ancor the wire to. ( a nifty trick!) that back branch that is so wrapped in heavy wire, I swore couldn't be bent into shape... I was of course proven wrong...
I thought I had a pic of the back too... and I sort of did, but it didn't really show the back so to speak.... I wanted to get a better photo of that finished branch I wired anyway...

And no, this tree won't go into a grow box, in due time, you won't see the top of the trunk.... there hopefully will be a foliage pad there...

Yes it is a nifty trick, thanks paddles! Beats wrapping the wire around the thick trunk.
Cheers, Dario.

Re: A plums story
Very nice, I particularly enjoy the curve in the trunk and the taper will come into play a little further down the track. Nice ramification and wiring so far

Re: A plums story
I'm blown away that you guys pull (read rip-out by 4WD) a perfectly ordinary Plum tree from the ground and make it live, let alone become a Bonsai… What an awesome project!paddles wrote:time has passed... So..., keen to see updates, lol time's up!

Re: A plums story
Well time has passed and I know some who will be disappointed with me/in me, but "the big plum" as it was known, has left my keeping, never to darken my doorstep again. I had a love/hate relationship with this tree, and all I can say is... thank heavens it left my care before I had to rewire the blasted thing again!! I have swapped it for an equally awesome (indeed the swap was in my favour) smaller plum. I wish the new owner (who may pipe up if he wishes) the best of luck, I do retain visiting rights.
