Forsythias are mad, there's no two ways about it.
This bit rotted off another tree, then shot further down. I almost threw it out, but here it is.

Re: Forsythia
i collected a old stump of one in the garden a few years ago . im currently trying to make it into a mulitrunk . They have a very straight growth habit and need constant pruning etc to bring shape into them. im sure the flowers are what keeps me insane. I saw a video by graham potter who has collected one over 2 feet in diameter.bodhidharma wrote:I have one too Mr G but, for the life of me i dont know why.

Re: Forsythia
Nuts, Bodhi!
If you can find a trunk that's interesting, they're worth it. They need to be a bit old and cranky. Anything we grow on from young stock will take a long time to mature. The straight growth certainly can be a problem.
For the two weeks they're going crazy, there's nothing like it.

Re: Forsythia
Watto, it's 16cms, or 8 flower-lengths high. It's good to be alive in spring! (sneezes head off)
