Olive virginity broken...

So I have finally lost my Olive Dig virginity,


Fresh out of the ground...


Bare rooted and cleaned up...

Flat bottomed and into bucket with Seasol...
I now have a couple of questions,
1: How long do I leave it in the bucket?
2: What do I plant it in? Foam box? Ordinary garden pot?
I would also like some design ideas and feedback, all of which would be greatly appreciated

Looks good.

You can leave them in the bucket for a few months if you want. A week isn't going to hurt it.

You can plant it straight into a foam box, or if its easier you can plant it in a garden pot to keep it wet and easy to move it around. I have one of mine in a pot and in the bucket with some water in the bottom until I start getting buds.

I like the trunk line. Design wise its a good start. But wait and see where it buds before you get to far ahead.

Hi Raymond,
Before making any suggestions I noticed your bottle of Seasol. This is the premixed type. When you said you put it in a bucket of Seasol, what mix did you choose? Please let me know.

Ray M, premixed bottle was used just for the photo... Just mixed up 1.5L water with about 40ml seasol concentrate.

What i do is plant into a cheap potting mix with a layer of gravel on the bottom. then i mix seasol 20ml per 9lts water an give it a good drink they love the stuff then from there keep damp not wet place in full sun an make sure theres no leaves on it.

Repeat seasol like that every 2 weeks olives are individuals some will shoot in as little as 3-4 weeks some can take longer

Thanks for the reply. That's a fairly potent mix. I use the 25ml per 9litres of water mix. You could certainly leave it in the Seasol for a couple of weeks. Seasol looses it's potency so I replace the water and Seasol every 48 hours. When you plant is out continue to give it a drink of Seasol a couple of times a week.

Thanks to Olivecrazy and Ray M for the replies. Do I bury the thing or just a couple of cms of the base? We had a shitload of rain on Sun night and Mon so the seasol got very diluted...

Did i quick virt the first thing is a straight trunk an a curved one looks out of place so best to remove the straight one but its useable. It should shoot all over the place so very good chance you will get ones you want. i would jin above the black line once most the trees branches are in place if it shoots well an in the right places i would think by this time next year most primary branches would be in place for this tree.

How big is the tree also the second picture show how deep i would plant it for now

My thoughts on the sea-sol. sounds strong but.... I have never had a measuring cup to mix my sea-sol or power feed and I use the wholesale concentrate one. Bit of a quick free pour and fill up the 9 litre watering can. Sometimes its strong and sometimes its weaker. Only real issue is that I possibly use more than I need sometimes from a cost saving perspective. I haven't had any plants cark it yet though. My pours for 9 litres would be any where from 30 ml to 60 ml id say.

Anyone else lazy like me or should I say time poor.

Thanks for the Virt Olivecrazy, it looks awesome. The trunks are about 50mm in diameter. Your suggestion about removing the straight trunk I do understand, but WHEN do I remove it? Now, or once the tree has recovered?

i would wait till ive got good shoot selected an well on its way to a strong leader on the second trunk then cut this is because right now you have no idea where it will shoot later on when its shooting well virt may need to be adjusted to suit if you know what i mean

Hi Squizz,
Your right about the strength of Seasol and Powerfeed. A little over done doesn't seem to ever hurt the trees. My main reason for using the right amount is a financial one. I always use the cap as my measure. I have been known when doing a demonstration to upend the bottle, when using a tub, until I think that's about right.

I would leave the cutting until the tree recovers. Olivecrazy has a lot of experience with Olives, so, would be good to hear what he suggests.

Many thanks... This tree will be potted in a foam box on the weekend. I am a car salesman so time is not something I have lots of.
