I was given this pine back in August and was told it was a Japanese Black Pine. I am not convinced yet though because of the small needles. Is this a variety of JBP, or is this a different type of pine?
Thanks for the input guys. I don't intend to use this for bonsai, just as a garden plant. But I will use some techniques on the foliage pads once it has settled in! Any further thoughts on the variety are most welcome
if it is a "swiss mountain pine mugo" or maybe a valley cushion variety. it is one of the favourite of Italian bonsai artist for it can withstand heavy bendings and forms elegant pad foliage quickly.
In the Japanese garden area at Charles Sturt Uni Thurgoona there is a grafted pine that is supposed to be JBP. It has very small needles and a sparse growth much like this one so its possible there is a dwarf JBP variety around???
