New Niwaki Project. Radiata Pine XXL.
New Niwaki Project. Radiata Pine XXL.
This tree spent a lot of its life in the courtyard of a Collins St. apartment building. I acquired it from a friend who managed to wrestle it down the stairwell and looked after it for a few years. Uchi and I will start on it early next week. In July, we worked on a Mugo pine (of similar proportions) that turned out great. Check the link for some shots. I will post some photos of the work.

Wow, what a project you've got there! Really look forward to seeing where you guys take the design of this tree

Great score there Jeff. What a great tree to find on collins st. That would have been fun getting it out knowing how tight some of those stair wells are. Will watch this closely.

I have been watching this tree for the past couple of years. I am pleased it has found a new home and somebody to take it to the next level.
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

After a couple days of pruning and needle work, the Radiata Pine is ready for wiring. We are making an effort to keep the tree presentable from all sides as it will be displayed as a centrepiece. One large section of the apex has bee removed leaving a large gin. The tree is in good health and will be repotted after wiring. I will post photos as the work progresses.

That is looking awesome Jeff. You have done the tree justice. Will follow this tree closely.

The Radiata Pine has been wired and potted. It took us two days to wire and a forklift to pot it. Check out the fb page for more photos. There will be a video posted in the near future. I'm sure it will grow into a beautiful tree. Thanks for all the interest in the workshops and private lessons. Sorry if we could not fit you in this time, there will be more in the new year.
