After show rewire
I removed the wire and plucked the old needles on my cedar group before the BSV show. Now after many hours the wire is back on.

Thanks Zen,zen wrote:Its a very nice group, I like it alot. how old is it?
I am the third owner and I believe it is about 25 years old. It is difficult because the second owner identified the original owner who claims it is not one of his.

Was it many cups of tea or the other stuff
This is heading toward being a well recognised setting at future shows, Arboretum one day maybe.

Quality.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: After show rewire
A very nice group, for sure.
Im finding a few of the bottom pads a little distracting as they seem to conform into a long horizontal line. Do you think adjusting them to create some uneven pads would create more of a 3D effect, thus breaking the group into more individual trees?
Mainly talking about the 3 trees on the viewers left. The unwired look at the show seems to be more pleasing for me

Re: After show rewire
A lovely group, well worthy of display. I think that, being a cedar, some of those branches which were suggested as being a little bit horizontal (as wired) will spring back just a little giving them happy medium. Is it correct that cedars need wiring, and rewiring regularly to keep their shape? Ash

Re: After show rewire
Thanks everyone for the kind words, it has been many hours of patient work but I am pleased with my decision to remove the wire and re do the lot. Constant attention and pruning is what improves our trees.
Thanks Jezz for your keen eye, sometimes we see things in pictures which are less obvious from close up. I went out and gave a few branches a slight tweak.jezz_39 wrote:A very nice group, for sure.

Spot on Ash, cedars need to be wired into place for long periods before they set. I am convinced that rewiring will be needed every couple of years if I expect to improve the groupAsh wrote:A lovely group, well worthy of display.
