where to get mini pine nuggets in sydney area?
Hi All,
I'm after some mini pine nuggets(2-7mm) around sydney area, anyone know where to source some? I know damian bee has them but he is in Melbourne, same as other supplier of orchestra, all of them are in Melbourne.
so to all the Sydney bonsai geeks, where do you get yours?
Regards
George

Re: where to get mini pine nuggets in sydney area?
so it appears there is no local supplier in Sydney area? or we don't use mini nuggets in here?
I used to be able to get some from Bunn*** a few years ago, but they don't stock anymore, only the bigger size available now.
FYI: my current mix is diatomite + zeolite + compost. but I find compost is too fine and would compact down and clog up too quickly. if use only diatomite + zeolite, the grow rate isn't too good, possibly there is no organise matter to hold nutrients and would dry out too quickly as well in summer, unless you constantly monitor your plant throughout the day which doesn't work out for us with busy working life.
Cheers

Try Orchid nurseries, pine bark nuggets are usually marketed to Orchid growers and enthusiasts.
Garden City Plastics appear to have a facility in Somersby https://www.gardencityplastics.com/Content/ContactUs_NSW... (if that's anywhere near you?) and they should stock the Orchaita ‘Precision’ 3-6mm or 'Classic' 6-10mm. I'd call first though, and Just make sure they check on the 'system' if you want the Precision as it wasn't in their normal product order folder and had to go searching for me (even though it's in their online catalogue
. (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16117)
Or you could see if Biogro supply any of your local retail nurseries? https://biogro.com.au/index.php?page=contact-us
Good luck!

Thank you all,
I think the ANL one is too course (15mm).
I've checked the Garden city plastics, they are more than an hour drive from here. so no good.
the hunt goes on.

Hi George. I think fencing make a product called mulch and feed. It has pretty good sized pine nuggets in it 5 to 7mm last bag I bought. Needs a quick sieve but doesn't need to much work.
I got mine from a wholesale nursery but garden centres may stock it or get it in for you.
Cheers

Getting hard to get Debco products up our way - don't know if you guys are having the same shortfall, I hope they are still in business. You could contact VanSheiks pine bark at Mt Gambier. I haven't ordered from them for a couple of years but they always provided me with good bark from super mini nuggets to large nuggets fro terrestrial, fern, orchid or big epiphyte growing. Ash

Re: where to get mini pine nuggets in sydney area?
There is a nursery in canley vale that sell an array of bonsai related products. They stock debco 'plugger' so they may also stock pine nuggets. Im not sure but ill check next time I pop in.
Nice little nursery worth a look if you can get there.

Re: where to get mini pine nuggets in sydney area?
Thanks guys for the reply.
I'm after a more definite location of where you get yours from, I'm sure most of the garden centres wouldn't order in for you anyways, since they are too cheap and not worth the effort.
yep, I've been to Canley vales nursery before, but didn't notice any mini pine bark, will need to check out next time.
Cheers

Re: where to get mini pine nuggets in sydney area?
It's amazing what some places call "mini".....25mm ?
Been hunting around for this myself. The closest I've been able to find is 10mm at Enfield Produce. It is the Ausgro brand from Biogro so perhaps they could order in the proper mini nuggets (5 - 8mm).
http://www.petandgarden.com.au/ausgro-o ... iogro.html
Materials In The Raw have a listing online for "mini nuggets" but I'm doubtful it's the right stuff.

Anything else I can find is for 15mm plus, though I did find this suggested solution.....

Re: where to get mini pine nuggets in sydney area?
Hi gents,
Unfortunately I'm still not able to find anything in sydney, the closest i could find is 6-9mm pine bark in power flower.
Anyone else know where to source these, perhaps u know of any secret bonsai place that can order in for u?
They used to be abandon in bunning, being sold as mini pine mulch, and now they r forever gone.
Cheers

GCP usually does deliveries for a reasonable price. Try also these guys for ''Kiwi orchid bark'':

I used to use Ausgro pine nuggets by Biogrow for my orchids. A good composted pine bark graded into many sizes. It is important to use composted pine nuggets as uncomposted will repel moisture if it ever dries out and will use up all available nitrogen in a mix as it composts.
I got mine from Floyds Orchids in Wahronga. I don't know if he still operates but you might find other suppliers in the Sydney area.
