New indoor display area

This is my new indoor display area for my trees in our lounge room. I still have to work on the lighting. The cabinet doesn't go all the way to the wall, so it leaves a small shadow. I might put some small lights behind the cabinet an see if that fixes the shadow. Also I will change the light cover and try to remove some of the coloring effect. As usual it looks better than the photo shows. My plan is to have the trees in for no more than 2-3 days then outside to recover. I need to get some stands as well and maybe some mats. I know the picture isn't correct and yes a Chinese scroll would work better but I had to compromise somewhere after removing the large china bowl we got for our wedding from this spot What do people think.

PS. no the picture is not crooked I think because of the shadow effect, in the photo the picture appears crooked but it's not. This is why I need to change the lighting, and remove the shadows.

Hi Josh , mate with all the technology out there some of the led strip lighting might be worth tacking around the underside of the top and concealed with a small infill pelmet . My outlaws have a similar light setup , no shadows . Good to have the indoor space , makes the missus appreciate you a little more if you use it as a work area at night also, beats sitting outside alone .

Yes mate i still eat , sleep and dream Bonsai sometimes .

Yeah that's what I was thinking Alpine.I have some 12v leds I use on my Kayak at night some might play around with them to see how it looks and then buy what I need. The trees often come inside to be worked on, Maree is slowly coming to terms with the fact that bonsai have right of passage in our house I bought her a dishwasher of which the top makes a great work bench

I think the Soe needs to come froward a little tho. IMHO, it should be further forward than the pot.
You will also have to get some tables for the display too

Thanks Ken, I figured so many people have trees that never get seen, might as well show what I do. You are right Ken with the placing, I need to get my head around the "rules" of displaying now. I'll have to ease into the display stands, my wife's only just getting over the shock of buying pots for my trees

I'm still in early days of introducing my wife to the obsession that is bonsai.

I've been bringing the odd tree in to work on while we are watching a movie....once she gets used to them in the house...

Hi Josh, when you display as a formal setting it is important to get the flow right. Your soe as ken pointed needs to form part of the scalene triangle.

Also the flow of the tree is very important your tree seems to me to flow to the left as we look at the setting, therefor the soe is placed with the flow, and if it has movement must flow towards the main element which is the tree.
Bammboo place mats are cheap as chips.

A very good first attempt yes a cheap scroll might be better than what you have there.

Thank you Pup, I have a lot to learn not only about the trees but also displaying etc. I will post some pictures with my idea behind why I placed the tree where I did as soon as I can. I need to get my head around displaying, stands and accent plants.
Not sure how I will go replacing the picture with a Chinese scroll but we will see. Maybe I could just change it and see how long it takes her to notice

I will play around with it some more and post pics as I go.
I would value continued in put from people so I can learn to display properly. Sometimes it is hard to see exactly what is meant in a book.
