overall silhouette is very nice- but would consider removing or jinning the second left and second right branches(to deal with what I consider to be the two bar branch problems)-then bringing first left more to the front
I presume you disagree :tu:

I do. I like the tree as is. The overall feel of the tree would be lost cutting off too many branches.

The trouble with photos is they just show a flattened image of the tree.

I also like to not overwork the tree in one sitting. There's no rush. Let it recover and down the track look at more options. No need to flog the tree in one hit.

That's a really cool tree.
Someday I hope I have a tree as good as that.

Not that I know of (off the top of my head), but there is a bit on the Wiki, and a handy link to a Tutorial :)

Have a question? The AusBonsai Wiki most likely has the answer!

Juniper clean up and styling of pad is basically the same as deciduous, keep it simple and with conforming lines. This is a Sierra Juniper in the mountains, this is what we try to mimic in bonsai not the poodle look you sometimes see.

The best info I can give is get to this DVD:

I may have one left to sell from Australia, let me know if you're interested otherwise you can get it from Boon.

I do not want to hijack Scott's thread but here are a couple of links:

Grant's 2 x 2 x 2 is a good one too, and a good place to start with cleaning up juniper bonsai.

EDIT: I just remembered this one and it basically outlines the technique:

Thanks Scott! I'm desperately trying to avoid the poodle effect, as that's all I've managed to achieve so far.

Here's another one that's been finished for now. Needs a repot down the track and further refinement with some work on the shari too.

I like this one.

Got a nice flow about it and will look great in a nice pot.

Yep. That's badass!

I just can't understand how you get the pads like that, and then maintain them with the new growth without it then looking hacked.

I've booked a lesson with a local Bonsai legend, and I'm taking the juni in question to him... will post the results!!

Wow, what a great result. Agree it has a really nice flow about it. The trunk itself flows with the rest really well.
