Can anyone recomend a good online pot shop. I have zero availability where I live.

I bought some very large Vietnamese pots, years ago, They are all bursting apart now, as thought they had 'paper'? in the clay??

May well be made from paper clay, I have used it and the results after firing resembled egg carton consistency.

Paper clay is used all the time, it lightens the weight of the piece . there is nothing wrong with it , as long as it is fired to the correct temperature.

Hi Joannm, What temps are we talking about for Paper Clay? I'd always assumed paper clay was similar to earthenware but have never used it.

Finally, while I'm not from SA, I'd be shocked if there wasn't a bonsai nursery with an online presence there.

I don't think there is one at present but Bonsai Mujo has just opened its doors and there are big things planned , watch this space

. It might be a little while until kelvin gets things to where he wants them to be , but it's going to be good , do a google search on bonsai mujo his website is up and running

Hi Duckbed,
paper clay is one of those clay mixes that can be fired at multiple levels. normal bisque, 2nd firing anything up to 10 . But I use commercial made .
2 photos showing results, are as you can see, one glazed the other stained.

Very nice. I think I'll give it a go. I'm about to move again and will finally be able to set up my studio after almost 12 months. Very Excited.!
