Just wondering if now is an ok time to air layer a juniper. I've never done one before so any advise would be appreciated.
Could find anything really definitive on here about best time do it.
Josh.

Re: Is it ok to air layer junipers now
Hi Josh , mate its O.K to layer most material in the growing season . I have done several in Spring /Summer with good success . I combine a tourniquet and ring bark on all material to be layered , just for added measures , and an open pot method on all layers.
This make for ease of watering however they must be closely watched so they don't dry out and care must be taken so you don't wash the mix out . Heavy stones help's hold the blend in the pot as does a piece of shade cloth tied or taped on top .Secure the pot to a fork in the trunk will prevent it from slipping down over time and damaging the roots .
Good luck . Cheers Alpine

Thanks Alpine. Will go ahead and set the air layer. Got a few trees in the garden I should while I'm at it too. Might try the open pot. Always wrapped mine in the past but will give it a go.alpineart wrote:Hi Josh , mate its O.K to layer most material in the growing season . I have done several in Spring /Summer with good success .
