Rookies cascade juniper progression..

Post by Rilez »

Hi every one,
This is my first bonsai and I have had it for 3 months. I thought I would post its progression so far for some critiquing and ideas for its future.

Here it is when I first bought it about 3 months ago:

After i repotted it:

First gentle wiring (with intent of cascade)

Here it is now after pruning and wiring:

Looks healthy and well wired.
For me the left upper branch could go, as it moves in the opposite direction to the cascade. That contradicts itself there.

As boics says, now just let it grow unhindered as let the tail extend

thanx for the feedback.

Could I possibly wire it to face downward or to the side Ken?

You could wire it to the back if you wish to keep it. It will help add trunk volume while it grows.

I am getting a little worried about the health of this bonsai.
The main branches have gone from green to brown, the foliage is still mostly green, but beginning to go brown close to the main branch.
watering:
I have a stone that is pressed about 1.5cm into the soil that I use to check how moist the soil is. When the rock comes out dry and the soil looks like it needs water I let it drink until a little water comes out the bottom. This occurs every 2-3 days.

I am hoping that its just maturing and not dying, advice needed :/

Looks ok to me mate.
I've been worried about some similar symptoms from time to time. Check out a thread where I've posted a bit called Oh oh its yellowing what to do.

My 2c is that the branches are just maturing.

Foliage looks great and this is the best indicator at this time of year I've found.
