Growing shelves for accents

Post by vgarth »

The number of accent plants I have keeps growing, (or attempts at accent plants) and I have just had them poked in between bonsai, or on the edges of the bonsai shelves. This is not working - either they get knocked off the edge and break, or they don't get enough light.

I finally decided to see what else I could do. Space is short, new shelves have to fit in somewhere that isn't a problem. Moreover, I prefer to use scrap or discarded material wherever possible.

Attached to the wall of the granny flat, above the little dog's stairway from his doggy door seemed a good spot for bracketing some old reo up.

I slipped suitable sized accents into the grid, so that they are sufficiently secure, have good drainage, and some sun.

That isn't all of them... more storage needed. In a left-over length of weatherboard, I used a jig saw to roughly cut out some shapes of pots that won't fit the reo, then rasped edges a bit to get a better fit. Then I hung the lot from another fence (above the compost bins!)

Still not everything, but progress.

Saw this on fb a while ago, great idea and execution. Reminds me to start more accents on my bench :)

Thanks for sharing.

Jason, you crack me up. I kept re-writing the title, trying to be succinct and clear. Missed your interpretation entirely. I didn't want people to think I was going to show Pretty Little Display Stands, and disappoint them! But now I can see no other way to read the title than your way!
