Has anyone imported stands from Japan or other Asian countri

Post by Shane »

Has anyone had experience buying bonsai stands from overseas, particularly from Japan or other Asian countries and having them posted here to Australia? Did you incur any quarantine costs for treatments? Any advice? I've always had difficulty finding nice stands here, and so have been looking overseas.

You should have no issues with customs if the stands are processed varnished timber. They may inspect but they should come through fine from Japan.

Surely you can get a carpenter to build you one if you give hime a picture? Can't imagine it would be dearer than shipping from Asia.

I have. Bought some through this site: http://www.j-bonsai.com/product-list/21 . No quarantine costs or issues. No problems conversing with the shop owner in Japan. Postage can cost $$, but it was here so quickly. Can use Paypal. The stands are amazingly beautiful. I'm sure this would be the thing you are after.

Perhaps a bit expensive for my wallet, however, I'd certainly locally hire stands of that or even lesser quality.
