something wrong with my yellow privet!!

hey everyone!

i bought a privet off a member from this site quite a while ago now, one side has a yellow leaf and the other a deep green, i split it into 2 trees and the green has bee thriving but the yellow leaf not so much!
there are some leaves with holes from some sort of bug but i can never seem to find the damn thing!!
and today it was not looking well at all
a lot of my plants are now in diatomite with all the same treatment, liquid feed every 2 weeks seasol 1 a month and a sprinkle of sea mungus all are thriving except this one
it was placed in a seasol bath and ill leave it for 24 to 48 hours

help!

How do you get a privet to look sick?

All mine are doing well. They get watered daily and and are in Semi shade thru the day/

How long ago repotted? Did it dry out at all?

I was thinking the same thing. I cut the bottom half of a root ball off and threw it on the rubbish pile. 5 weeks later I had a clump style privet growing, the roots were bone dry. It's now thriving.
Matt-J those leaves almost look like a fungal disease to me. The brown spots appear to have a fungal look to them. Have you sprayed it with insecticide or fungicide. I would give it a good spray of a systemic fungicide/insecticide.

The white leaves are due to an extreme iron deficiency however thowing on iron won't help in this case. Iron is taken up by the root tips mainly and I would guess your plant has none! Wash the roots, soak in fongarid, pot up in a sandy mix and STOP FEEDING! Also use the smallest pot it will fit into and keep well shaded.

I think its due to the lack of nutrition , have you ever use any kind of spray ? You should test your soil sometimes soil also effect it .

he feeds it every 2 weeks so doubt it's hungry, unless lacking in a particular nutrient only but doubt that with a privet.
What do you mean "test your soil". How do you do that??

I reppoted in August, along with my other privet and none have skipped a beat! Except this one

Hey tree man that's an interesting thought, I didn't think it was like that because half the tree was green the other half yellow wouldn't an iron deficiency effect the whole tree? This looked a lot like variegation

I have a Privet that has both yellow and green leaves on it
golden privet is its common name and is normal on it

That privet looks strongly familiar, I think I know where you got that from!!!!!

I have one also, number one thing with privet and growth performance.

It can be charaterized by:

Yellowing leaves
Dropping of leaves
Curling and blackening of leaves

Overall decline in health.

9 times out of 10, it's root bound, the water, although it penetrates the soil, the roots stay too wet.

Privet do not like wet feet, I see it all the time while bass fishing after a flood, they are growing strong whilst on the bank, but then a flood comes through and part or all of the root mass lands into a higher moisture environment, I.e. Closer to the water, or in it.

In all cases, weather it is partially submerged, fully submergede or just closer to the water table, they curl over and die.

Repot, it won't hurt it, into a free draining mix, and I now repot all my privet every 5-6 months.

Since I've been doing that, I have not had a problem. That, and lots of fertilizer, they love it.

I repotted in August, bare rooted and cut the roots hard and repotted into a mix of 2 parts diatomite 1 part pumice 1 part zeolite, so I don't think drainage is a problem

Sounds like you have it under control mate.

A good feed and good water should see it bounce back completely (but not too much, just remember although it won't nessecarily hurt, a good well draining mix doesn't mean water when it's still wet, I have found privet, and all my other trees for that matter, do much better when they are allowed to dry out a but before re-watering)

thanks for the feed back bio, it seems that it has been getting weaker and weaker since the repot!
it was in a seasol bath for 24 hours and the really hot weather yesterday messed it right up! it has lost most of its leaves
its now in the shade, ill try and let it dry out for the next 2 days and give it a good soak
to be honest i have no idea why its doing this, every one of my plants is looking great at the moment, in the sense of health that is, they dont look so great with all the weeds
