Re: Permisson
I think you mean Persimmons (diospyros discolor)
Type of flower??? Depends on the species
I have attached a photo below of an american persimmon flower (Diospyros Virginiana) but that is just one example.
Above that is a cultivar called Diospyros Kaki 'Fuyu'
Beyond that all I know is that they make spectacular Bonsai but I have not saved any pictures to show you.

Re: Persimmon
hahaha how to look like an idiot. yeah, persimmon is the one. i saw the pictures of the american one but i also saw a pic on google that looked closer to a prunus flower. the plant itself is exception in trunk movement and branch structure. i have also heard, though forums overseas that they are great to bonsai. maybe i shoudl go back to ray and ask

Persimmon
The botanical name is Diospyros Kaki or Princess Persimmon. I did a post 'Thinning a Persimmon Branch' in the Exotic Plant section recently and there's information on the species in that post. You can get one if you are lucky from Ray Nesci's.
I repotted my male persimmon last week and discovered why it was in such a large pot.... five large root stubs under the base. Naturally they had to go. Luckily persimmon wood is no way near as hard as elm or olive so I was able to remove them with minimal trouble and the tree does not appear to have suffered.
Persimmons grow quickly and set hard and branches the size of a pencil are all but unbendable. You need to get a nice trunk or get a young one and bring it on over the years.

Re: Persimmon
You would have the kaki, to my knowledge Ray only handles the miniature Princess Persimmon [Kaki]. But do you have male or female??? And you can't spread two roots to find the answer to that question!! I have not seen these trees in flower but Ray said the male has a small trumpet shaped flower while the female is a larger, more open shape. My male is basically a trunk with a few stubby branchlets- so there won't be any flowers this season - I will be chuffed if develops leaves and branchlets.

Sorry about the graininess of the photo. It was the best I could do.
