japanese white pine refined

hi everyone
here is a japanese white pine that i started about 12 year ago from nursery stock. it was first styled two years ago and it's been left aside to do its thing until yesterday. when i laid my eye on it again, it was time. once the wiring started, there was no going back.

yes Jason, took longer than i would have liked. i wonder what is the record for anyone out there to wire and style one tree in one session? this one took about 8-9 hours over two days. it would be interesting to know how much effort and detail we put into styling our trees.

What a transformation. Looks great, well worth the effort. How long has it been in that pot? I have often wondered how long it takes to wire some of these trees. I look at trees like tridents and elms with great ramification and wonder how long they take to wire? As said though, well worth the time. I often think people under estimate the value of wiring.

hi Josh, from memory, it's been in this pot for 10 years but it was last repotted 4-5 years ago. the needle length have reduced signigicantly in the last year. this tree, like a lot of my private collection trees, don't get watered and fed as often as the commercial stock, as the result the shorter needle length. i don't encourage it though as it was unintentional in this case.

i do feel confident and have a tripod, but i dropped my good digital camera accidentally a few months back, so have to make do with my i-phone. i shall try what you suggested when i get the camera fixed.

quick update.

the lower two branches have been reduced in length and all other branches have been cut back to buds further in to form better structures. the apex has been brought back towards the right hand side to add a bit of height and different movement to the rest of the tree. it is still in its training pot, might root prune it and repot if a nice pot is found.

yes michael, the apex never looked right to me the first time. i sort of pushed and twisted a lot of unnecessary branches to form the rounded top. so this time i've decided to regrow it with a change of direction and using the back buds to properly fill out the canopy.
