Dove getting out of the heat
Hey guys,
Wasn't sure which forum to post this is so mods please move it if need be.
This guy is a regular visitor to my garden and I guess he's (she's?) decided to have a rest from feeding in the heat we're getting here on the east coast.
Not exactly bonsai related but i thought it was cool none-the-less. Excuse the blurry photo but I had to take it through glass and then digitally zoom in after cropping, so as not to disturb my friend.
Cheers guys,
Ces.

Love it! I always put bowls of water all around my property on days like this. Just I'm case some wildlife are in need of a drink.

Re: Dove getting out of the heat
Looks like a pretty cool spot up sit, pun intended. Animals are awesome the way they seek help when needed. We had a koala shelter near us one winter. It had a cold so we cared for it. It let us pay it and everything. Once it was better it headed back into the the trees. I have two of these birds visit regularly and I ignore them and they ignore me for the most part. Thanks for sharing your friend.
Josh.

Re: Dove getting out of the heat
We had 2 blackbirds nest in some of my bonsai stock this year, right next to the dog and our deck. No other birds came close to annoy them and yesterday the baby black bird flew out from the nest to deeper shade . They seemed to welcome to daily watering of the trees.

Re: Dove getting out of the heat
Very cool Grant.
I really appreciate the increased amount of birdlife that has come into the yard since I started my collection. I wonder what it is they like about wee trees?
Not likely to get any koalas to pet around here though, Josh
The kids must've loved it.
Anyway this guy just got a bit of a startle when my auto-watering system came on
We'll have to see if he comes back for a bath.

Re: Dove getting out of the heat
Love it
we have heaps in our yard (we regularly feed them) as well as a few Pink Galahs that stop by for a feed.
The pigeons spook real easy, but the galahs just look at you like "I'm not moving unless you make me"
Never had any around my bonsai though... but then they are probably a wee bit small for them

Have a question? The AusBonsai Wiki most likely has the answer!

The dove's are flighty, just wish the indian minors were the same
p.s. Any bird watchers out there that might be able to identify the species of my banksia dove
?
Woud love to know. I noticed when it took off when the 'rains' came it had two white tail feathers with one black in between and two chocoate brown either side.
cheers,
Ces.

Thanks Hacki... Appreciate that. Dammit though, was hoping it was a native on a native. Oh well... he's cool with me anyway.Hackimoto wrote:It is an introduced species from China/India region, Spotted turtle Dove. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=spot ... 8Qe3ooCQCg
