Update. Update. Update.

Amazing tree.
Great little journey this thread too.
Good you may have one of the most epic collections Grant.

Keep up the good work.
I'd never heard of the underside channel/branch set method before.

Sounds like a really neat trick!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Grant Bowie wrote:Hi all,

Here is the swampy as of today. I never did the undercut of the branches(hoping they would set without it ) so they have popped a bit; but in the flesh I am quite happy with it.

We have not had any heat yet in Canberra and the Swampy really gets growing once the hot weather sets in.

It measures 95cm from the top of the pot to the tip of the apex and the base is about 30cms accross.

Having just read the thread I agree with Pup, I prefer the tree with as is, with slightly less downward angle of the banches. I believe the additional width it give the tree balances the strength of an imposing trunk and gives a more natural appearance to the tree.

I would certainly be happy to have it in my collection.

cheers,

jeff

Well,

Next instalment will be that this tree will be for sale at the forthcoming Ausbonsai sale day.

I have trimmed it back and rewired a couple of minor bits in preparation for the sale.

I will post a photo once it has pushed out new growth etc.
