[ID] Tridents or Liquid Ambers?

Post by Aquaman »

Hi

I introduced myself in The Bonsai Cafe and posted some pics of what I thought were Liquid Amber seedlings.

Boics suggested that they might be Trident Maples, so I thought I would post some "better" pics here and hope you can ID them.

Tree 1 - I believe this is a Liquid Amber because the leaves are large and some have five points:

Tree 2 - This is the suspect Trident:

Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Cheers.

I believe they are LA - I am swayed more by the trunk than the leaves

You know my thoughts.

But to elaborate on what I see here.
Check out both leaves, trunk and in particular note the different way that the leaves come off the trunk.
#1 parts staggered while #2 parts the trunk evenly in pairs.

These are two different trees.

LA and trident IMO.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Its seems we all agree that Tree 1 is a Liquid Amber.

On closer inspection its clear that Tree 2 is not the same, so I can only assume its a Trident. I didn't plant anything else in this batch.

I like them all so I will keep growing and enjoying them.

Cheers.
