I think there are a few tips to avoid being suckered on eBay:
1-beware the listing that only has 1 photo or multiple photos of the same thing.
2-beware the listing that has no detail "20yr old beautiful plant" and nothing else. You should be able to pick a description done by someone who is genuinely interested in bonsai.
3-obviously always check feedback.
4-if your interested "watch" it for a while and come back to it.
5-don't be afraid to ask the seller if they have other stock they are looking to part with-they save the sellers fee, you don't have to bid.
There are some genuine bargains, as well as genuine rubbish, same as any category though.
Anyone else get annoyed at some of prices on ebay?

Also worth checking the sellers feedback too, you can learn a lot from thereIsitangus wrote:I think there are a few tips to avoid being suckered on eBay:

Re: Anyone else get annoyed at some of prices on ebay?
Well i have heard some rubbish on forums and this is another typical case . I sell dozens of bonsai trainers every year on the site mentioned , bare rooted and potted trunks and they are sent from S.A to far Nth QLD . My feedback is 100% however there is one nuetral feedback claiming the excessive packing and postage cost of a root over rock to Nth QLD , THERE'S ALWAYS SOMEONE HAVING A WHINGE .
To place all sellers on this particular site in the same basket is like refering to all here as honest do gooders . Yes there is a lot of shoddy material sold in nurseries , online and on forums but as has been said its "buyer beware". If you cant see the tree don't buy the wood .I purchase a lot of items of these sites and yes I'm very happy with most thing , some are damaged in transit but if you take short cuts wear the consequenses . Pay the extra for registered post or secure packaging .
I wouldn't buy a bonsai pot posted in a padded bag , i have a packaging standed that I wont compromise for any buyer nor will i rip them off , yet i will get numerous questioned regarding the postage cost . If you don't like it leave it .
Cheers Alpineart

Ebay is a shop and like any shop.
Some things are well priced and of good quality and some things aren't.
You are the one that needs to decide if its right for you....
Use your head and if something is advertised at a price that is well above market value, well it only takes on finger to scroll down the page to something else.
Realistically, trees that are worth spending your time and money on are not advertised on ebay and never will be!
Just my 2c

No I do not buy from them.
As for selling trees at exorbitant prices, if you think that then do not buy.
When I am asked if I sell my answer is yes. Prices are given, if it appears too high I am not worried as it can sit there.
When I am asked of a tree I do not want to sell I put a very high price if I get that I will let the tree go.
It is always YOUR choice.

Re: Anyone else get annoyed at some of prices on ebay?
Hi, just saw this post.
How about some of the rubbish that Bunnings has for sale.
To the untrained eye, anything in a Bonsai pot means it's expensive. I think that's what retailers like Binnings and people on eBay rely on.

Re: Anyone else get annoyed at some of prices on ebay?
I, like most of us have a look and with a little experience , we know what we are looking. I also have sold a few, about 4, on eBay at very good price but include detailed descriptions and the customers to pick up. Some travelled 5-6 hrs, went away happy. Basically what I'm saying you can pick the good from the not so good and don't pay til you're happy with what you buy. I've only bought some pots.
