Re: The great Aussie bonsai limerick competition
Mmmm......I just noticed the 'save' button. Perhaps I should use that instead of doing a million posts!
OK....... Lindsay Farr's splendid contribution, was a dig at all the keen limerickists out there (but we'll forgive him)
They should have been pruning 'n' weeding
Re-potting, de-wiring 'n' feeding
But instead they chose prose
Silly rhymes in five rows
Gave up growing for writing and reading
Well done Lindsay, it's a little ripper!
Shannon's 5 liner was also terrific:
Dug out a fig from Bundy
Made into a bonsai on Sunday
Will made an inspection
Now it's in his collection
I'm getting a Pat Kennedy Monday!
Spinner had many verses...this was very good:
My passion is playing with trees
It leaves me fair weak in the knees
Ausbonsai enables
Upon revolving tables
Manipulative wire bondage...yes please!
not to mention Pat Kennedy contributions, eg:
Young Will has sought to inspire
The bards of Ausbonsai entire
We struggle with rhyme
And metre and line
For a prize that some may desire
Emoska....serious, but then the twist:
Bonsai is an art to apply
To the mother of earth and the sky
With the dwarfing of trees
And the styling of leaves
Here's hoping the next one won't die!
FliBri's classy number:
It seems there's this fella named Stymie
Whose talent had somehow slipped by me
His quick turn of verse
Never bitter or terse
And his bonsai make me think, "Corr blimey!"
And last of the best, but not least, this wonderful contribution from Webos:
T'was walking my dog and fell over
On a short, fat and stumpy Zelcova
With a twinkle in my eye
I ran home and I
returned riding 'pon my bulldozer
Yes indeed! As you do! Well done everyone....it's been fun...... All the best, Will

Re: The great Aussie bonsai limerick competition

I love you all (especially the judges). A decent set of rotters. I'm still enjoying reading through the verses, again and again.
While enjoying the last of the sun
Sitting midst the small trees having fun
Came a P M from Will
Can I believe it still
That the limerick contest I'd won. Regards to all from Don.

Congratulations Stymie - not bad for a pom, and well deserved
Congratulations Lindsay and all the other contributors.
Even for a non literary person, it was fun to read your prose, only wish I were half as good
Regards
Steve

Stymie, your light hearted, cheerful and always funny limericks are delightful to read and recite. (my wife makes me recite them to her) Thanks for your contributions and the laughs. Congratulations too.

Re: The great Aussie bonsai limerick competition
I'll certainly be thanking both Pat and Will. There'll also be a pic of the pot - assuming that it survives the halfway round the globe trip. 'Oh yes it will.'. Depending on the timetable it might even be planted up. I have some shohin sized stuff.

Re: The great Aussie bonsai limerick competition
YABBADABBADOO! The prize pot has arrived in perfect condition.
A couple of big thanks to you Pat for making it (What a novel glaze) and to you Will for sending it and packing it like an egg. It will be treasured and there's plenty of time to select a tree to enhance it before our potting season in March 2010.
Here's the proof:-

Sorry....can't resist, so here goes:
The man held the pot in his hand
it had travelled from far distant land
he expresses his joy
with the zest of a boy!
and we too, one and all, understand.....
congratulations Stymie....I hope I have as much zest for life as you, if I make it to your youthful age!
Looking forward to your creation down the track
All the best, Tanglefoot
