Hi all,
Been a while since Ive posted a question on here, but Im wondering if anyone has any experience with this particular cultivar of Acer Pal.
It has small leaves and beautiful color, and has thus far served me well as a Bonsai.
Im after more detailed information and perhaps some tips if possible regarding repotting, fertilising and ramification.
Any help is appreciated as always.
Regards,
Mo

There are many ways to do things, but only one "best" way.

Re: Acer Palmatum
I had one years ago, it had short internodes and thickened well. So long as you can get stock with no visible graft line they should be very good. Treat the same as A. palm. for cultivation, but just remember that styling will be more on the stocky side, rather than the graceful fluid style style of the usual A. palm. Mine died from root rot, be absolutely fierce about good drainage and not overwatering in the cool months. Scott Roxbourgh had some comments about dilute lime sulphur sprays in winter that might be helpful.
Good luck, post when you have something you're happy with. We don't see enough of the named varieties.

Hi Gavin,
Thanks for the response.
I've actually got one already, just waiting for winter to get some wire and a "before and after" shot.
Any word on pruning? Had you ever defoliated this species?

Re: Acer Palmatum
Is this variety a stand alone cultivar, or grafted stock only?
Wouldn't mind a picture...

After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...

I shall take one soon although I must say, its not at its most presentable state.
I'm not 100% sure how theyre normally started, but my one is an air layer purchased from Tien at Bonsai Sensation.
Will try for some pics this weekend.
