Can any please ID this one?

Post by EJZ »

Hi All,
Found this tree growing in the bush near my place, I think its some type of juniper but could be wrong.
Can anyone please confirm what it is? its also got these red fruits similar to a cotoneaster. I don't want to be removing it if its native.

Definitely no Juniper.
The Berries look like pyracantha but the leaves don't.

I'd say we should get a few good ideas soon.
The Berry should be a good indicator.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Some type of cotoneaster perhaps, though not sure with those leaves.

You are right Watto - very dodgy pic.

From the little I can see leaves look like hawthorn but I can't get a decent look at the berries.
EJZ: Leaf and fruit are just 2 factors to help with ID. Some more info will always help. Let us know whether it is a tree, bush or shrub; What the bark on the trunk looks like; overall shape of the plant - wide spreading, tall and thin, etc; where it seems to like to grow - cool gullies, dry hillsides, wet areas, etc. The more info you can give us the better the chances of getting an accurate diagnosis.
