It has been a short season for this young root-over-rock trident maple - it is already showing autumn colours. Although not the best time for it, it is pretty spectacular colour.

Is it lacking in fertiliser?
that is a good way to get some colour into trees. hold back on the fert.

Re: Short season for this ROR trident
Ken - yes it hasn't had much fertiliser. It also didn't have a very happy root system during the growing season, which I believe is why it is changing so early.

Interesting Ken. I have a few maple seedlings and they are in Leca and pine bark mix. This is obviously a low nitrogen mix, and these little porkers have been red all summer.kcpoole wrote:Is it lacking in fertiliser?

Great colour and a nice little setting for a young Trident.
One of my Tridents is on the turn already aswell.
This particular tree of mine is simply lacking vigour, too many defoliations last year.
