Condy's Crystals (potassium permanganate) for Curl Grubs?

Post by Drac0 »

Just wondering if anyone has tried using Condy's Crystals (potassium permanganate) to treat curl grub infections? Read somewhere that a pinch of this in 5 litres of water and saturating the pot gets them. Currently have quite a number showing up in some of my bigger pots with a bad soil mix & it's a few months away from re-potting time.

Was going to just try drowning them but read on here that someone put one in water for 3 days & it was still going strong so that may not work.

Cheers

NO!!!! Don't do it!!!!!

While manganese is an essential trace element, in concentrations needed to kill curl grubs it would be toxic to your plants.

In the past to treat curl grubs I would make a standard solution (aphid strength) of pyrethrum and submerge the pots in this, leave for 12 hours. Since moving to inorganic potting mix I don't get them anymore.
