Callistemon out of a friends yard

Post by MoGanic »

Hi all,

I dug this Cali from a good friends yard about 3 weeks ago.

Its going well but its not out of the water yet.

Before you ask, multiple drainage holes were drilled before I put the tree in its current "pot".

I am hoping to grow out a branch down low as a second trunk. This will hopefully eventuate into a twin trunk bunjin style.

Thoughts and tips appreciated! Please feel free to comment.

By the way, the base is close to 1.5 times as large under the soil line.

Cheers all,
Mo

Good potential in that last pic, with the width of the lower trunk visible.

If it were my tree I would wait until Winter and trunk chop down to where the trunk splits in two and grow a nice shohin! :o :tu2:

Thanks guys!

I'm seriously considering a chop, but it definitely wont be Shohin sized ;).

The bark is excellent down low Jason, I'm really itching to show off the rest of the base.

Technically it probably wouldnt suit shohin, although a smaller designed tree I think would be a better option.

It will be interesting to see where you take this tree... :tu2:

Love the bark!!
If it were mine, id be using the right trunk (in the last pic), looks like it has some great character and plenty of girth for its size.

Great potential, cant wait to see where you take it
