Cotoneaster ??

Post by Scooter_M »

Hey Guys

is anyone able to confirm for me if this is a Cotoneaster ? ? The wife picked it up from ALDI a bit ago because they were all dying and on special (its recovered since then), so she thought i could rescue it. Only thing is it didnt come with a tag. And what ever it is, any special treatment for this guy?

At least she's getting on board the bonsai train, she didnt like that ALDI are just trying to make a few dollars and just leaving tree's to die inside on a supermarket shelf. :tu:

Looks like cotoneaster to me as well. I also have 1 with the small leaves and those really straight shoots. It is different from C. horizontalis but not sure what species it is.
The one I have develops slower than horizontalis and because of the really stiff growth pattern it needs regular pruning to get some decent shapes and taper but it does flower and set berries more reliably than C. horizontalis

Aldi had plants from Gardenworld, not sure the plant name type but it will be a type used by there business.

Half had that cement on top so make sure you clear the soil if you haven't done so yet.
