Facebook bonsai classifieds

Post by lackhand »

Thought I would share this link. This group has been fairly successful and going on for a few weeks now with lots of nice stuff to sell.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/311535095608900/

*Disclaimer - it is mostly based out of USA/Canada, so mainly a place to look at pots for those down under, but there are lots of nice ones - new independent potters, and some antique Japanese/Chinese stuff too. I'm pretty sure I saw a bid from Pup on there.

If there is enough interest, I'm sure an ambitious person could start an Aussie version too. Or maybe there is one and I haven't found it yet.

While I'm at it, there is a bonsai swap page too, so you can trade plants/supplies instead of buying/selling. I've enjoyed both pages, and I'm thinking about what I might be able to swap at the moment.

I beg to differ. It won't and can't really add much more than is already available with various forums nor ebay/gumtree.

And that's before you consider that it's Facebook. If you really don't understand that yet, do a websearch on "facebook privacy issues" .

My issue is that you have to be a member of facebook to see them. GT or Ebay etc you do not.
I deleted my FB account ages ago as I could not stop if from spamming everyone.

Facebook definitely has its issues. I don't like it or use it much at all, but it has been good for this so far. Being able to buy and sell on AusBonsai probably negates some of that need. It's kind of nice to have it run as an auction though, it gets more people involved both selling and buying, and you can get some decent deals.

I'd like to think I've safely avoided the Facebook plague.
Thankfully from the posts here it would seem that this concept might not force my hand...

I don't want to find a compelling reason to join!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Having an extended family all over the world I do use Facebook to stay in touch. Like all forums it has its pitfalls, again if used wisely it is very useful.
The site in question is an American one, that supports the local Bonsai fraternity by offering some thing other than EBay and not sure they have Gum tree.

So before you condemn it have a look it is time oriented you cannot get your fingers burnt if you don't want too.

Negatives never help any one that is why some of the older members do not come along and say much any more.

Grumpy old fart no2

Ps this forum has its own Facebook page.
