hi,
i keep reading about lignotubers in other posts. Please can someone post a pic of one.I want to see one up close. When i saw the one fly or mel showed,( not real sure who had it now) i couldnt make out where it was on the pic.I thought they were the bubbly things you see on some gums just above the ground level of the suckers. Also why do they cut them up and plant them again. CheersPetra!

Re: Lignotubers advise
That is them.
They may be buried, they may be engulfed by bark or they may just blend into a smooth trunk. Tubers are specialized tissue that can hold energy etc. Lignotuber means "lignin tuber" or "woody tuber", meaning they are not succulent/fleshy roots like those on some plants.

Jayc, thanks for clearing that up for me.Now i look back on the pictures i can see where it is, although why in some cases do they chop of the roots and the tops then bury them. What is the purpose of that then.

Re: Lignotubers advise
Lignotubers are like "stem cells", matierial that can has not been assigned a specific role to the tree so they can become roots or branches, depending on what the tree needs under the conditions and enviroment its in.
