MoGanic wrote:Collected some seed today and noticed some, which had fallen to the ground among debris of old leaves and twigs had already germinated. Also noted back buds growing strongly on some old trunks of the trees.

Despite the bipinnate compound leaf I think this species will look pretty good as a medium size bonsai due to the small size of the lobes.

Will start a new thread to follow the progression.

There's a fair few (hundreds if not thousands) of seedlings that sprouted this year.

I wonder if these would survive in some moist tissue while being transported back to my place before being potted up.

Just a note, this plant is considered an environmental weed basically anywhere outside it's native area. So try not to spread it. :D

Are you planning to grow it from seed? Maybe you can find something more rewarding for bonsai? It reminds me of my wattle...same leaves...very long internodes...and it will have to be a huge bonsai to look like anything.....but very fast growing.
I ask lots of questions that sound like suggestions. Please remember I am a inquisitive newbie trying to figure out why You made a particular decision, in order to learn.

I probably could find many plants that are more rewarding bonsai, just ask the rest of my collection ;). What attracts me to this species is that it seems to grow super fast and doesn't seem to have been utilised in Bonsai before. Also, the flowers are pretty.
