Hi guys, I have recently propagated some cuttings (First time I have done anything like this) of the above species and want to know your opinion on the level of light it should be getting (Or any other comments you care to make) . They were propagated about a week ago. Some of the cuttings had accidentally been knocked sideways but I am hesitant to move them back into position in case I dislodge the rooting powder any further. The tray does come with a transparent hood with vents that you can open and close. It is the standard seedling tray you find at B******gs and is made by Yates. At the moment I have them in my laundry and they get very little light throughtout the day. Why do I get the feeling they should be getting more direct sunlight . Temperatures during the day are about 20 deg. and at night about 15 deg. Is this the wrong approach? The buds that were already there seem to be opening but from what I understand this does not necessarily mean the roots are forming.

Nice one Jester.
Don't be too concerned about moving them at the moment. Most important is to get rid of those flower buds ASAP. They will be sucking the energy out of the cutting.
The roots will definatly not be there yet. First they will start to callous over and then roots will form. I would recomend carefully pulling out a few occasionaly to study what is going on. Is the wood healthy has it started to callous yet. Light will be a little more important when they start to leaf out and again this will be no indication that they have started to root. Like I have mentioned to you I am only starting with this too but I think most of this is pretty sound advice.
Good luck and thanks again for mine
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
I have done many cuttings and the easy ones always do well, the hard ones I have not had much sucess with yet.
I leave them alone in my humid box, until I see roots coming thru the bottom of the seed tray, DO not move the to " have a look see" as you will bereak off any small roots you get. If the cutting turns black and rots then yo know it failed, if it Grows new leaves and roots then it works. If it has not reached either stage then leave it.
Warmth is more important than light, as until you get leaves, no photsynthesis will happen so yo do not need it. I keep mine outside under my bonsai bench
Having a look will do no damage as there will be no roots for a while yet. If you pull them up to look sometimes you will learn this for free
I used to be scared to do this but figure it will be the only way to understand what is going on and the knowledge gained rewards with better results in the future.
