From the original stock, this shows great vision :tu2:
There is a lot of character in this now squat tree. Will look forward to seeing this in a few more seasons. Are the two left side branches or smaller trunks?

Jeremy

Thanks for the nice comments guys, It will go into a smaller container this year i think which should make it pop a little more.

The left growth comes from the trunk (which is now the raft section) so i suppose if the central growth is a trunk then they are trunks themselves, although i am growing them more like branches.... A difficult question to answer with a clump style.

Very imaginative, and maturing well. Are you getting roots along the trunk? Have you done anything to encourage them?

Hi Gavin,

There were a few roots along the trunk at a couple of locations last re-potting. I have removed some bark in a couple of sections to help this process but it was not forming by any means a solid mat around the surface of the soil. I think it will be a slow process to get the roots to where i want them. Slow and steady i guess.

Hi Joe,
Have you tried a bit of rooting gel to encourage the roots to come out. Maybe at the next repot if nothing much has happened ;)
Cheers Rod

Thanks again for the kind comments. For a species that grows so vigorously it does do a lot of that growing in the wrong places, which is in turn is removed, slowing the ramification process down. That said is is improving with each passing season.

I haven't use rooting hormone yet as i expected elms to root much more easily than they have. I guess i will see if there has been any improvements this season as last root work i did i removed a number of larger roots from the original root ball which may have stimulated more rooting.

Joe.
