What to do with this gum ball?

Post by Beano »

I got this liquidambar gumball last year. It is grafted. It's quite ugly and sends buds in odd directions in clusters. I'm considering chopping below the graft and turning it into a regular liquidambar as a bud has popped up there. Any other thoughts?

It is grafted on to a standard but they air layer quite easily so you could try that?

It is too straight and no taper...but you can use even the top part if you carve some of the bulges later.
Airlayer it and have a bonus tree.
I ask lots of questions that sound like suggestions. Please remember I am a inquisitive newbie trying to figure out why You made a particular decision, in order to learn.

Air layer for mine.

I love your cat!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

The cats thoughts are usually with the myna birds and when they're coming next. It's like an Alfred Hitchcock movie out there sometimes.
