Try some of the aquarium/pet shops around your area for imported aquascaping rocks, the tend to have alot more character and far better suited for bonsai IMO.

Its just local volcanic rock that is everywhere from Docklands to South Australian Border,there many type's most farmers will let you pick it up for free.

Also most housing Estates on Western side of Melbourne have many truck loads to remove from each earthworks in housing construction.

We have gullies full of it back on the farm,we pick up more with each crop and move it to the gully.

There can be some very heavy forms of Volcanic rock to very light forms it all depands on the minerals in the rock.
