Willow leaf Peppermint - back from the brink

Post by alpineart »

This has been a little project for a few years , from tube stock to what now is a severely damaged frost bitten native

, the pot was frozen solid .It was hit about 2 months ago and looked very dead . The leaves and twigs would crumble in my hand so i ripped it out of the pot {needed the pot for another tree}and tossed it into the dunk pond . This morning while still tidying up i notice some new shoots

so it was potted up

. While it won't recover completely the main framework and structure should still be part of the new design .

Very interesting Alpine. I have a couple of natives that look dead from our very severe frosts this winter so I will give them another month or so to see if there is any movement.
Thanks for the inspiration.

G'day Alpine .It is amazing how some trees cope with what gets dished out to them . Looks like you have nature working for you now ie a bit of a winter pruning . Do you use much winter protection ?

Hi Sno , I only protect my figs in winter, we usually get fogged in on the hill but the lower township gets hit hard . I might get up to 6 light frost per year but this one was severe . This will be placed in with the figs from now on .

Cheers . Alpine
