Prunus Confusion - Please help wanted

Post by Jester »

Hello................................
I have consulted quite a few bonsai people and I seem to get a different answer every time; no one seems to know. I believe the flower attached is Prunus Cerasifera var. Atropurpurea but others say it is Prunus Okame. So after sniffing some dynamic lifter for brekky (Pellets not liquid) , I thought, ...to hell with it, no more mucking about, I will just consult with the head honcho, the big tomali, the grand wazoo , the cat's whiskers, .............and go straight to "B*****ngs" Oops sorry, I mean OzBonsai. Please help. It can't be that difficult

P.S. Pay no attention to the tab in the background.

It is a strage looking flower for a prunus
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Sheeesh ...thanks Brett   No, unfortunately the tab may be incorrect Contestant N0. 1 "Papow"...

I would disagree though about the flower being unusual for a Prunus. P.S. How are your cuttings going? Mine are starting to leaf...Did'nt take long

The trees i am using for my test are Prunus Okama and I took some photos and posted in this thread here

They are only small flowers but you may be able to compare them

Thanks Ken. thanks very much for that. Why however am I still adamant that what you have there is not Okame? I have been to a very well known bonsai nursery that also thinks otherwise. I have no interest in mentioning the name as it serves no purpose.I tend to think even the Nursery owners are unsure. Prunus tends to be like that.
