Large Juniper (16 yr Saga)Styling.

G'Day All,
In 1998 I attached a few Junipers (3) to a large old juniper stump with the view to creating a Phoenix Graft style large bonsai.
Here is a pictorial over 16 yrs of it's progression to this day.
Please look at the pics from #9 to #1 as I have loaded them back to front 2014 to 1998[/b]

This is a fantastic example of long term tree development. I couldn't help but think that this tree has been in development for more then half my life! Would love to see it fully wired.

Hi Brian Bishop , mate I love the challenge of the Phonix Grafts and you certainly have nailed this one , might have taken 16 years but it does look very natural . While we rarely find old stock it can be created to a certain extent as you have proved here . I hope this inspires a few more members to put some together .

Thanks for the favorable comments re my phoenix grafted juniper. It has been a pleasure being involved with this tree for so long.
Now for the next phase of improving the style of the thing.

A fantastic lesson for us all. And a reminder that great bonsai must be built. Built over time, rather than created in an instant from larger stock, reduced during a single styling or workshop.

Thank you for your kind words re the juniper and yes, after 32 yrs at this addictive pastime, I have managed to assemble a fairly good collection of quality trees.

Trident76, you are spot on in stating that it takes a long time to create a good bonsai..all the more satisfying though.
I must admit that it is still fun to jump over someone's front fence with $50 in hand and ask "will you sell me that big boug in your front garden"?
