Juniper just dried up.

I've had this little plant (can't really call it a bonsai yet!) for a few years now. The other morning, after months of good health, I walked outside and most of it had dried. There's still green if I scratch the bark but the leaves are brittle and discoloured. The odd thing is there's a couple of clumps of perfectly healthy growth.

I haven't done anything unusual to it, started fertilising last month and saw a lot of buds pop out. This practically happened overnight. The only thing I've done differently this year is move to a harsh, dry environment a few months ago.

Could there be root rot and it's just clung on for a few months before finally giving up?

Should I just write it off or can something be done to save it? It's not going to win any shows but it does have sentimental value to me.

The problem with these type of Juni's is that it could be something you have done a few months back and now it is showing the result. This happens a lot with these types of Juni and i have not figured it out. Cut off all the dried out foliage and cut the branch's back to about 20mm of stub. The dried out foliage will not come back but sometimes they grow back at the stub. They normally power back on the foliage that remains and i have found a spray of lime sulphur can help. The beauty of these is you can always redesign the tree. Good luck.

Hi Mellenoire, a very light sprinkle of ORGANIC fertiliser will help it along.
