Hi, I wonder if any of you who have bonsai nurseries, be they commercial preferably be able to give me some hints or information about running them. We know about security of course. This is just one unit for my Horticulture Cert IV, from TAFE Tamworth, on line.
Part of my course involves this, and I am just a hobbyist, I mean I could make one up. But I would rather go to a genuine source.
If you have a website or if you can contact me on PM, I would be very grateful. We can go from there privately if you wish?
The sort of things I would be interested in are following, but not written in stone of course.
1. Approximate cost of setting one up, licenses, etc. Council or town regulations. If any.
2. Taxation I suppose GST? (Mind you if you have a private nursery, I am not a taxation expert, but do know you can claim business expenses for taxation purposes, and generally this doesn't mean much profit, for taxation, with losses, labor etc. Mainly labor.
3. Help for beginner or novice collectors. Well that's obvious to some, but my experience with Bunnings, has a few problems ??? mis-labeling etc., source of supplier be they from a different climate, like Norwood in Sydney. But they do give a happy plant guarantee of 1 year.
4. Assistance after sale. This should be offered automatically in my mind, with a written paper for that particular genus. I found out, ficus don't like the cold as in Armidale. But as a rank beginner, I thought if it was for sale where I lived, that should be OK? To my chagrin with almost loosing a box, saved. Lost a Port Jackson fig.
5. Type of trees (do tropicals or the like need a greenhouse?)
6. Sales and stock of assessories, and bonsai supplies generally.
7. Water supply? I know one garden nursery in Armidale and Bunnings, use only collected rain water for some plants, but Bunnings particularly have large underground water tanks so they say.
The identification and locality will be not revealed obviously if you don't want it to be.
Maybe the State will be sufficient. (Local climate)
Thanks in advance.

Re: Assistance needed from owners of Bonsai nurseries.
I'd be pleased to offer some of my insights.
