Picea Abies

My first attempt at grafting a branch to a bare section..

Just wondering how long does it take a graft to set

I dont think that is "Abies" try Cedrus atlantica...i think

Now you got me thinking though Im quite sure it is "Picea Abies"

Of interesting note is that this specie "to the benefit of bonsai principle" does not seem to have needles growing downwards on branches.

This is my observation of this tree so far.. lateral and vertical growth thus far only

I think it's cedar as well. A spruce has more compact foliage which doesn't extend as far as the tree in your image.

Thanks guys do you know whether this specie takes well to grafting or in general how long should grafts stay on for.

It's only a small shoot that is inserted into the trunk.. hopefully it will take

Maybe I should have posted this first.

I was going to leave it as a garden specimen then I couldn't help to see what was underneath all that lovely weeping foliage

I kinda like it in its original state.. so lucky the foliage will grow back

What do you guys think? Grow it back to its natural form and plant it in the garden?

Because of the weeping branches, there were very little to no branches midway hence the graft attempt.

I am unsure how big this tree grows or whether its a dwarf but I think would make a lovely garden specimen

It is neither a Picea (spruce)or a Cedrus (cedar). It is a Abies (fir) -possibly pinsapo.
An approach graft might be worth trying if it fails.
