"Yellow Flecked" Juniper

Well I don't know what type this Juniper is so I just call it "Yellow Flecked" for now unless someone knows.

Here is the ugly stick that nearly got binned out in mid Sep 2014.



2 months on and I began to grow fond of this little guy. I like it's graceful yellow scaled foliage and I thought hmm to get the juices flowing
Won't work anything just yet but will do progressive updates on this one as I think it'll turn out quite a nice little piece when done.

Its a chinensis of some sort. One day you may want to graft itoigawa onto it?

I've read great and interesting articles about the itoigawa juniper.. do we have those in Australia?

I wanna collect as many varied Junipers as I can.. just lovem

I think the Itoigawa Juniper is a cultivar of Juniperus chinensis 'Shimpaku' or something like that that is native to Japan?

Does that mean a Shimapuku is in fact an Itoigawa Juniper?

Itoigawa shimpaku is a type of shimpaku juniper originated from the "itoigawa" area.
It is prized for its light green,finer and more compact foliage. It is also less likely to produce juvenile foliage when pruned back hard. Not widely available in aus yet.

Cheers Mount Nasura it does seem like a very close resemblance indeed. How is your subject doing? Anyone have these developed and trained?

good question, i don't have an yes or no answer.
perhaps people who have been to Japan can shed some light on this.
i wouldn't think that EVERY shimpaku juniper from the Itoigawa region possess the same desirable traits. however, the first junipers with those traits are found in the Itoigawa region.
