Not sure of the exact species but I would guess cunninghamiana based on the location of the find. I estimate it to be around 8-10 years old
Also not sure if I can still call it yamadori as I found it about 4 years ago and have now done more work on it than Mother Nature, (not a boast, just an observation/ question). So first to the location, at the bottom of a mud/clay cliff in running water but elevated on an island, my guess due to recent rain fall of the time it used to be higher up and fell with some of the embankment, my fortune and thanks to the bonsai gods. the exposed root was there but not as exposed and over time I will lift this a little more to expose the bridge between root and trunk which is only just visible now.
I am trying to emulate an old river swept tree, I get to see them all the time in my creek walks and the twisting turning branches just amaze me so I'm going for that "look and feel". I have only just added the shari deadwoods and that will continue as the tree develops along with sculpting of the deadwood stumps that are on it now. If I was to anal about the description I see the light source coming in from the exposed root end drawing the tree that way but the elemental forces (flood water) also coming from that direction but trying to drag it back the other. WOW too much back story...........to the tree,
Whoah, one little addition back in Feb of this year just after I got back from Japan and was away on one of my work travels my sprinkler system faulted for the week that I was away, I lost a few trees that week but thanks to some very light showers and I have to say my potting medium (not dirt Leong)most were saved. This one however died all the way back to dead stumps and did not come back. after weeks and weeks I put it on the shed windowsill, a place where all good bonsai go to die before being turfed, low and behold I came back a week later to find micro shoots all over it, either I scared the sh## out it or the bonsai gods saw good to bless me, either way I remain extremely thankful,...........where were we, oh.........
to the tree..........
so since dying back in Feb, this is what it has done
and what I have done today
