Hey folks,
Thought I would post up the trees I will be taking to a workshop with Ryan Neil over the period between xmas and new year. I thinned these 2 out about a month ago and have left them to build some strength before work.
Here's the first tree, a J. Squamata
This is a great old tree, big thick trunk with great movement and some great natural deadwood and shari to work with
Here's the second tree, a BIG JBP
Again another huge old tree with a big thick trunk and great movement, lots of branches to chose from. Just for comparison here's a shot of the pine with my second largest JBP, thread can be found here viewtopic.php?f=131&t=17775
I am super excited for this workshop, it is being held at Bonsai South and I jumped at the opportunity to attend all 3 days. I can't wait to spend this time with these trees in the hands of 2 absolute masters and I know this will be a huge opportunity for me to develop my skills.
For anybody interested there is also a private demo with Ryan being held at Bonsai south on the 5th of Jan, I believe there may be a spot or 2 still available so if you're keen get in touch with Leong and he will look after you
Keep your eyes peeled for updates next week
Kez

Re: Trees for the upcoming workshop
Hey Kez, I too am booked for the three days, will be great to catch up with others of like minds.
I won't be bringing trees as I am coming from NQ through two airports but I cannot let this opportunity go by.
I am young in bonsai knowledge years and this experience will be one difficult to replicate in Australia so after Japan, NZ and Ryan Neil 2014 will certainly be my learning curve year.
If you need a extra set of hands to balance, hold, weigh down, take a photo, hold a wire, in fact anything tree oriented, I am your man.
I too am super excited about this.

Re: Trees for the upcoming workshop
Well 3 days of full time bonsai have come to an end and I am stoked with what I learnt, what I walked away with and the time I spent with the crew that was there and with Ryan.
He is a legend, an amazing talent and a humble, down to earth, enthusiastic guy who genuinely loved creating bonsai with people who were keen to get stuck in.
I can't say enough about him and I am truly thankful for the opportunity. A huge thanks goes to Leong also who made it all possible, provided the stock, the room, the environment and brought everyone together to share and learn.
Here's 2 junipers I worked on, one is the above tree and one is another I picked up on the last day. No pics of the pine sorry as it is bare bones at this stage
the above tree And yesterdays work I cant photograph trees for peanuts so I haven't done them justice, but you get the gist.
Anybody who is going in the new year is in for a real treat!!!!!

Looks like the workshop was well worth it. I love the styling of your trees, congratulations. I'll add that course to my bucket list as well.

Very nice!
Looking forward to the demonstration on Monday.
Will this workshop be a reoccurring thing?
