Juniper cut paste

Post by Daluke »

I'm seeking recommendations on a good paste to help an unsightly cut on a juniper heal.

I have no experience using paste and appreciate anything anyone has to offer.

Hi Daluke,
I seal my cuts with two sealers. The first thing I do is apply the sealer in a tube, that is of a consistency of toothpaste.

If the cut is larger than 15mm I apply the cut paste on top of the this sealer. I allow the first sealer to harden, depending on the temperature, it may take several days. I then apply a paste on top. There are two types of paste. There is White lid and Green lid. The documented application is, Green lid for Conifers and the White lid for deciduous trees.

Without being too much of a downer, you will have great trouble healing scars on junipers. Their either heal very slowly or not at all.

Ray, where do you get your cut putty from? I used to have the play dough type, but can now only source the toothpaste type. I have a few larger trees, so larger cuts, and I prefer the putty type in any event.

Hi Daluke,
They only have Japanese names on them. If you check with your Bonsai nurseries, I'm sure you will be able to find them.

You don't use cut paste on junipers. Only tiny cuts will heal over and larger ones should be turned to jin and shari. That's why we never cut anything over about pencil thickness flush.
